All of our materials come from the local forests and are gathered so as not to harm the ecology of our area. We use ash, white oak, cherry, walnut and whatever else we find to create the color variations you see in the splints. This material is available in our store.
We have been producing hand carved baskets and supplies for over 40 years, supplying many of the best teachers and shops with quality handles and splints.
Our business is located in the beautiful hills of Tennessee, and all our wood is harvested locally as a sustainable resource. We are lucky to have a variety of trees to work with here in Poplin Hollow, and are always developing new products. Because each handle is made by hand, custom orders are welcome.
Don't forget to check our our one of a kind Baskets as we are using many of our newest products in them. Custom orders are welcome.
A tradition originated in the Iron Age, still relevant in the Modern Age.
Before moving to Tennessee in 1977, Richard Spicer was a boilmaker for a utility company in Michigan, but had to quit due to a coal dust allergy. Deciding to get back to the land and live in an area that was cleaner, he tapped his creative side and has worked as a basket artisan ever since, working side by side with his son Patrick since 1990.
Thanks for sending the list of your products. I'm sure I'll be ordering from you again! I love the TN Indian Swing handles... you do beautiful work!.
